Honu Honeymoon This image shows a beach off Ali’i Drive in Kailua Kona where green turtles like to haul out in the evening to have a snooze on the beach. The photograph is a composite of two raw camera files captured at the same spot and camera angle, but a couple of weeks apart. The foreground image of the turtles and beach sand, plus the house at the point was layered onto the background image of the beach, lagoon and sky. The evening that the two turtles were cuddling the sky was gray and dull, whereas the evening of the spectacular sunset the turtles did not come up onto the beach. So I combined the two images into one, taking advantage of “artistic license.”
