Kua Lani This panoramic view of the Milky Way over Kua Bay (also known as Manini’owali) was exposed entirely by starlight. It is composed from 16 individual exposures stitched together to show the entire beach. Lani in Hawaiian can mean sky, heaven, or heavenly. The name of this image incorporates two of these meanings, as Kua Bay is an absolutely heavenly place, while this image focuses upon the sky above it. During the day this beach is typically crowded with visitors and locals enjoying the sun, sand, and surf, but only their footprints are left behind in the sand after night falls.
